Building Bunkbeds: 4
Next it was time to make matresses. I had styrofoam packing the correct thickness so I took my paper pattern and laid it on top of the top bunk to determine that I needed to cut the foam 1/4" shorter in both dimensions. This is one advantage of making patterns on 1/4" grid paper.
Cutting styrofoam is a nasty, messy job because miniscule bits of statically charged foam stick to EVERYTHING! I made ticking from the sleeve of one of DH's worn-out work shirts and glued them onto the matresses. I laid a piece of waxed paper over the glued side and laid a heavy book on top to get the fabric to glue flat.
