Tudor Cottage

Dalesq

More of my eclectic decorating.
I made this cuckoo clock kit this last fall but wanted pine cone weights so that it would look like my dad's clock. It has sat unfinished while I pondered how to attach the tiny real pine cones April sent to me (thank you April). I also had to ponder how to preserve the pine cones, or at least make them a bit more resilient to wear and tear.
I finally decided to coat the cones in matte gel medium and set them aside to dry. It dries clear and matte so that helped to protect the scales. All the other pondering resulted in using a seed bead as a cap for the cone, and compressing the last link of the chain so it would fit into the other end of the seed bead and hang properly.
I like the imperfections of the cones and the look they add to the clock. :)
So it's fini!

Congrats on a great job. I love cuckoo clocks, esp these that look like the Black Forest ones. I have a RL one that came from a trip to Germany so I'm partial to your design. Your patience paid off well.

My dad's clock looks almost identical to this one and is also from Germany. That's why I only used stains for finishing; I wanted a mini replica.
