Tudor Cottage

Dalesq

I decided to pin hinge the front door to the cottage. I like doors that open and I didn't want to use the wee brass hinges I have. But why I always wait until the last minute to hinge doors I will never know!

Anyway, I used a Citadel pin vise that was an Xmas gift from my daughter. I drilled down into the top of the door first and added the pin (which was actually a dressmakers t-head pin that I cut off. I then carefully carved out a grove in the interior door trim for the stub of the pin to rest in. Then I drilled up through the base floor of the house, and with the door held in place, marked where to drill into the base of the door. I took it apart and drilled into the base of the door.

I assembled it by first lining the top pin up in the groove in the trim and gluing the trim into place. Once the glue had set enough to hold I inserted the base pin through the floor into the door and set the entire house aside so that the glue would finish drying around the trim. The last step was to glue a bead over the base pin to secure it. The door swings freely and opens perfectly.
