Looks great, Emily! And I like how you used pins to keep the spindles in place, clever!

Maybe you could hang a framed mirror on the wall in the stairwell that would reflect some light into and create a possibility of viewing the area via reflections. Maybe add a wall scone to create mystery light flowing up and down the stairwell into the surrounding rooms.
