For years, like most of you mini-nuts, I've collected little bits and bobs that might come in mini-handy someday. Lids, especially, always look to me like I'll have a use for them eventually, so I keep a plastic baby-wipes box near my mini supplies that I can thrown new or unusual ones into, and dip in periodically to see if just the right whatchamacallit is in my collection.
For this project, where I wanted both old pots and pans that might have been used early in the sugaring operation, before the evaporator came on the scene, and newer pots and pans for today's cooking, and tons of buckets for tapping trees and other uses, I nearly cleaned out my collection!
Handles are of watercolor paper or of florists' wire, and all "metal" pots, pans, and buckets have been coated with stainless steel or aluminum enamel paint, or copper acrylic paint.
