Chimney Bricks Mortaring Process

dkumpula

The first side I attempted to mortar was a bit too runny, so I had to go back and do a second coat after it dried. With the mortar being too wet, it also required to be laid on its side until it dried. I also tried using a large animal syringe to inject the mortar the first time and determined that it was easier just to glop it on with my fingers and rub it into the joints.

The other sides as in this pic, I made sure the mortar consistency was thicker, which allowed me to rotate the house without waiting for each side to dry. In both cases I added wood glue to the mix in roughly a 1:4 ratio. Hopefully this will help with strength and stability.
