Beacon Hill Tower Window Interior

I have read that this window causes some assembly confusion, but my confusion was why this small window had an interior piece which had an opening even smaller than the window. If this were your 1:1 home, wouldn't you want to maximize light coming into the tower?

A little more fill and sanding and this should look good.
