So I have made some progress with all the wood trim. I also painted all of the lighting. That took some experimentation! The best technique was to use a matte clear nail varnish as a base coat (went on much smoother than metal paint primer) and then used a flat black enamel suitable for metal. Since this project only has 3 rooms, I opted for the easy route and splurged on battery powered lighting. Each fixture comes with a wonderful little strong magnet to attach to the walls/ceiling.

I won't be using all of this furniture...just playing around to dress things up for the photo.
