Both roofs: In progress



Here you see the main house in the background, and the carriage house, nearly finished.

We chose cedar shakes for the new roofing, but the shakes we purchased seemed too wide when we placed a few on the house, so we immediately set about cutting every single one down by about a third of their width. Worth it... I guess... but verrrry tedious.

And of course, generic bags o' shakes are all one color, and that color is a bit new looking and a bit boring, so the next job was taking all 1,000-ish of the custom-sized shakes, mixing up 9 different batches of paint, thinned-down to washes, in colors that resembled shakes that have seen some time, and then staining 1/9 of the shakes with each color. When the exterior is complete they'll all get a dirty wash to bring the tone down and even them out just a bit.
