1850--Catherine Barrington Rockafeller, AKA Kit, has followed her husband, Michael Rockefeller out west to find his fortune in the Gold Rush. (Michael is a distant relative of THE Rockafellers) Catherine's father, who cannot deny his daughter a thing, especially since she married a man who cannot really support her in the manner in which she is accustomed. "Kit" needs something to do while counting the days til they can return to Boston. She has decided she wants to open a little salloon--but with a little classier atmosphere...she calls it an Oasis since it's in the small town of Coloma, pretty much in the middle of nowhere...She has convinced her cousin,Angelique to make the perilous journey west to be the "Star of the Show".
