Finished
yesterday about 5:30 my mother came by to discuss the day trip she and my gran would be making today
they are going to go see my other gran(mom's mom) and my aunts and uncles who are all celebrating
their birthdays today. so Im thinking ok she can take the Orchid to her a week early.
so last night Catriona and I sat from 7pm working on the finishing touches...she quit around 12:45
but as I still had the roof to do I was up till 3am and got up at 7 to do the touch ups.
I am happy to say that the house is on its way to its new owner. of course I didnt stop and take photos of each decorating step because basicly that was all I had left to do.
so here are my finished photos
please note the roof looks better in person...not much! :o very disgusted with myself over poor descion making. I was all set to shingle. Catriona had drawn all my lines
and I have a bag of shingles all ready to use from the coventry
but at 1:30am after putting on the first 3 rows and having to already make about 6 cuts I was done with that.
so I peeled them all off. and decided to fall back on my good ole stand by textured paint. but when using the paint it is a really good idea to fill in the slots with spackle. but not me!! oh no! I couldnt make it that simple on myself. I decided I would fill in the slots with the tissue paper I mean the textured paint would cover it up? right?....WRONG! so I had to texture paint and tissue/paint the entire roof and it did not make me happy. I should have shingled and took it to her before the 19th as originally planned.
but as I said its done
it is not Horrid but it made me think twice about sending it.
my mother said roof not good but roof not bad...send it.
OK...sent!
and here are my finished photos as it walked out the door..and yes the glue and paint is still wet....no house of mine has ever left me completly dry. always working till the last second.
I wanted to landscape it also but I think she will be able to handle that...she is very crafty and so are 3 of my aunts who come and hang out with her and do crafts together.
I found this kit a nice beginner house. a quick build for the seasoned house builder. a couple of things I found that would make me hesitate to gift this house to a small child would be the porch seems a tad flimsy and the large dormer is also not as sturdy as I would like for a small child and Im talking 6 and under.
but if you replaced the porch supports with a sturdier support that would probably take care of the situation.
like the square or round dowel rods from any craft supplier.
I love the Octagon windows and the design is so nice. the window arches and gingerbread gives it such class and charactor that it would make a wonderful addition to any home or collection!
of course with me being the Halloween nut that I am...my next Orchid will be haunted.
I hope the photos and comments are helpful.
Happy Building!
