4/5/06, starting to build a fridge
I gathered together the scrap wood bits I thought I would need to make a monitor-top refrigerator such as DH's DGM had in her kitchen. One punchout was 2.5" wide & I cut it 4" long for the back of the cabinet. I took a piece of 1/4" scrap and cut two pieces 4" long and set them along each long edge of the back piece to make the front. I cut another strip to fit between them across one end for the top, and another for the bottom. The punchouts for the front bay windows were 1 3/16" wide and I cut them into 4" lengths for the sides. I cut down a porch punchout to make the top & bottom of the cabinet.
I glued the sides to the back and I glued together the pieces to make the front, using my gluing jig.
I found another punchout slightly wider than the interior of the front opening and I traced & cut it for the door. I cut down a scrap of siding to make the pieces to hold the chamois strip I'll use to hinge the door, if needed.
I cut one wide craft stick into a shelf and sides for the freezer compartment & cut a scrap of flooring (from the Cambridge, I throw away NOTHING) the perfect height for the back. When they are dry I shall spray paint them aluminum.
I cut two shelves from another wide craft stick. Once they are glued in and the glue is dry I shall prime the inside white and tomorrow I shall spray paint the inside with gloss white and begin sculpting the exterior with spackle to give it the appliance appearance.
I used two leftover barstool tops glued together & sanded for the monitor-top. I spread glue over the side and wrapped it with crochet cotton & spray-painted it silver & when it was dry I dunked it into my India ink/ alcohol mixture and if you're not too picky it resembles a monitor-top.
I have some 1/4" square doweling to cut for the feet.
This is fun!
