Progress with siding and staircase.

Well I finally figured out what the porch light fixtures look like: bits of matboard and some odd eyelets.

I need to find the right diameter clear plastic tubing to fit over the light bulbs though.
The lights being installed, siding is progressing slowly but surely; I've learned my lesson about applying siding layers too hastily, as it leads to buckling.

I've been working on the staircase; the Laurel kit staircase just has two sides and the treads, so I used those as a base to build a more complex structure which takes a 90-degree turn into the kitchen.

I built up the rest of the staircase with matboard and foam core; it has a bit of a hodge-podge look to it as my vision for it was a bit dynamic in the design phase! :prop:

I scrounged through my wood trim stash (sadly, very low) looking for railing, and came up with two types and short of each, so I used 1/16" basswood to make some more. I have not had good luck buying railing recently; the last time it turned out to be something weird and half the amount I thought I was getting.

I had built up the door casings back when I did the windows, and finally got around to working on the doors (from Kris' tutorial at http://1inchminisbykris.blogspot.com/2014/06/1-inch-scale-dollhouse-interior-door.html ); I had forgotten that I wanted a screen door for the door in the kitchen, so I will probably redo that center door.

Here is the powder room door unpainted and in dry-fit; I added a layer of matboard on the inner surface of the trim so it won't stick out so much into the powder room. I am debating whether to pin-hinge it (as Kris does) or try to put real hinges on it.

I am going to try something slightly new with the railings this time, off-setting them from the steps; I am also thinking about the best placement of them on the second floor so that they don't become too obtrusive in that cramped space. This will necessitate finishing the flooring in those two rooms. Seems like I'm always trying to figure out which step comes first!

Love your stairs!!! I've always loved the look of stairs that turn.

Are you using wood siding or matboard siding?

I have found that if we use the white glues, they need alot of taping and clamping.

Twinkle used the thin GL siding to make a board and batten look on her barn. It came out great but it was a tedious job of constant taping and clamping.
