A little bit of this....a tiny bit of that

Hi all! I have sort of reached a stale mate on my Pierce. I have made lights but I don't feel that I can fix them in until I have the second floor and the walls actually glued in. So, I want to do at least a couple of my downstairs windows before gluing the walls and floors. However I have been struggling to get the window pieces as nice as I would like them to be. Hubby has just bought me a collapsible paint booth with a fan in the back and I have sprayed the two bathroom cabinets I've been making today which worked quite well. So then I decided that I want to put a different paper in the study and now I'm re-doing the bathroom as the cabinets I'd made previously out of balsa were clumsy and completely the wrong scale.

I am extremely pleased with the new cabinets I've made and want to share - even though I'm not completely finished as yet!blogentry-62950-0-91298500-1429862764_th blogentry-62950-0-24119400-1429862769_th

Oh my, you are ratcheting up your expectations aren't you? You are doing fabulous work. It's interesting that you are recognizing what you like and don't like so soon as a new builder.

You must have very high quality taste in your RL home, accessories and décor. You'll be so much happier when all is said and done if you keep listening to that inner voice that is so bossy and demanding right now.

From the pictures, I loved the first set of cabinets so can't wait to see these finished. They'll be professional level.

Oh and your lamps and lighting - I love what are making. So much nicer than the cookie cutter ones available online.

Can't wait to see what you come up with next.

Thanks Selkie!  I certainly value your praise as someone who has been in the miniatures scene for many years!

I think there are a couple of reasons for my 'perfectionism' - which I didn't even know I was until husband and daughter pointed it out sometime last year - not in a good way!  :)

I'm a Gemini and tend to get bored if I'm doing the same old, same old.  That's why I think miniatures is so perfect for my nature - I can do woodwork, painting, electrical, decorating, tiling etc etc.  There are so many facets to it so that when I get bored with one thing, I can move on to the next.

I did like the study wallpaper I used, however my daughter and I came across a beautiful scrapbooking paper with tiny gold fleur-de-lis all over it.  Considering we're scouts, that means a bit to us, and we already have a fleur-de-lis button we were going to hang on Norm's study wall.  It's just that bit more masculine and I know if I didn't re-do it, I'd be kicking myself.

I am trying very hard to ignore the staircase!  Looking at that I can see so many things I would do differently but I really am NOT going to pull that apart and start again!

As far as the lighting goes - I was concerned hubby didn't want me to spend too much so I decided to make them.  Took a while to get started as I was so nervous - that's also partially the reason I haven't finished them!  Funny though - hubby took me to a dollhouse shop last weekend - we don't have many here and this is in a different city and in a lady's home.

It was the first time he had seen how much is available and was encouraging me to spend!!!

Whoa nelly, I'd jump on that in a heartbeat. My DH thinks I'm a lunatic. He doesn't care what I do, mini wise or craft wise, as long as he doesn't have to look at it. It all has to stay in my craft areas. If you are getting support, you are truly blessed. It will make your mini journey so much more meaningful and enjoyable.

You are very gifted right off the bat. You should be proud of the work you've done and let it inspire you to experiment with new and exciting things to come. Can't wait to see where you head next.

Thank you Selkie!  That means a huge amount coming from you.  I have since spackled and painted several layers on all the inside edges of doors and windows.  I don't know how much you will see of that once the windows are in - but I want to make sure that the little you can see, looks okay.  I've also decided I'd like at least three of the round windows to be 'stained glass'.  I used to do glass art but I haven't any resources any more.  So I've tried doing several different ways - it's all crafting and all fun!  Yes, hubby has been very supportive - he says it's because I've stuck at it so long (I'm a Gemini and tend to get bored with things easily).
