Leaps and bounds!
Well not really...! I got all the windows made, from basswood, and mounted them in the casings. The little windows in the 2nd floor are just glued in, but I wanted the 1st floor windows to open; I mounted one pair in the casing too far inside so that there was not enough room to hinge open, so I had to move them out, which creates a big ol' gap which I am still thinking about how to deal with. I should have gone ahead and beveled the outside casing to accommodate the hinges. I guess it is not too late to do that but I will think about it...
I was glad that I hadn't glued the walls together yet though, because it was alot easier to deal with those windows that way...
I glued the walls together, finally, and installed the 1st floor ceiling (which I had put together on cardstock ahead of time, and flattened under books), as well as the staircase:
I didn't like how much of a gap shows up in that strip of ceiling trim so I added a thinner strip to the inside of it, while I was adding trim to the staircase and everywhere else:
I wanted to do something striking with the 1st floor flooring, and thought about a sort of split-level flooring scheme, so I decided to take the plunge and do it. I am pretty pleased with how it looks so far; I cut the "tile" on a bias because I thought that added more visual interest and almost makes the space seem larger:
I will finish trimming up the flooring, and I'm working on painting some Michael's hutches bashes to install for cabinets, then I will turn my attention to the 2nd floor.
Edit: the "carpet" (upholstery fabric) was mounted on cardstock, which was mounted on posterboard, to give the height for the upper level on the 1st floor.
