Introducing My Fairy House Project

I received my Corona Aster kit this past weekend and am very excited about embarking on my project. My plan is to trick it out as a Fairy House for my niece and granddaughters, instead of making it a doll house. I want to incorporate elements from nature into the design. It will also have an odd scale since fairies will live there. After all, fairies are small and have some things fairy scale, but they are also a bit limited to needing some things from the human world.

The first thing I did was read the directions and get the kit out.

OMG! I am intimidated already! Lots of words, very few pictures. It has been very helpful looking at other people's galleries and seeing their work in progress, especially the early stages of construction. Since I want to take a slightly different approach to the stucco, incorporating shells and stones, I bought an unfinished birdhouse so I could experiment with surface treatments before working on the fairy house. So I am not too much farther along than the above photo. I have done some labeling and sanding though.

I have also begun making a little well, experimenting with clay:

My plan is to fire the base, then affix small river pebbles to the outside surface so it will look like a stone construction. Then I'll make the rest of the well with wood, and make a bucket. If the base works I'll experiment with the roofing... either pine cones or moss, I think.

If you have any suggestions, please feel free to jump in and share your ideas. I have a lot of learning to do.

BTW, this is my first doll house kit, but I actually made a doll house fro scratch for my little sister when I was 10. It was a Mouse House instead of a dollhouse and everything was mouse scale. I made the furniture, too. When my computer is back from the shop, I'll post pictures of that, too. My 10 year niece has it now. I even made the furniture... I can't believe gumption I had taking on that project! I only hope I can do as well as an adult.
