Structual Framing

I'm still putting the final touches on the house's basement. Mostly touching up paint in the secret wine cellar and preparing the final rafters for installation. I'm also building the wood form for laying bricks at the turret pedestal. It will take an estimated 1,200 bricks to complete, but will make for a sturdy and well-appointed base.

Structual framing of the 1st floor is on-going. I have all but one of the interior walls framed. I still have 3 walls to frame for the kitchen and the interior wall framing for the West living room. I assembled the joists for the 2nd floor deck and most of the attic sub-deck. The roof/3rd floor will be designed for easy removal. The plan is to have a 1/4" thick sub-deck permanently attached to the house with a 3/8" main deck built directly above it to support the roof. This will make moving the house (to shows, etc.) less of a hassle. a 2' X 6' house is cumbersome enough, but when its 5' tall, its nearly impossible to re-locate. All of the electrical circuits will plug into the top of the sub-deck, so lighting will be functional in all of the house's rooms. The goal is to have the entire house framed in time for the Ocala Dollhouse Show. I just hope they allow me to display it. Of course the walls will only be temporarily assembled for the show.

I prefer to build framed houses so the rooms are as accessible as possible during construction. This keeps working in confined spaces to a minimum. I'm sure there are many experienced house builders who think this is too much work, but it not only gives the construction of the house a realistic feel, but it reduces the weight of the walls while allowing full consealment of the wiring within the walls.

The only problem now is I have great ideas for at least two more scratch-built houses, but I'm still years away from finishing this Tudor house. So many ideas, so little time. . .

I love this photo, it really gives a sense of what you're building.

I thought this was going to be a big house but I had no idea it was going to be so HUGE! 2'X6'X5' :p It may seem like it is going slow to you but considering it's size you're making great progress! :p
