blogentry-570-1174766880_thumb.jpgI'm including some photos from this week. I still need to finish siding the tower and the little hard area by the roof, then the siding will be completed! I got impatient to see how it would look so i applied one coat of paint to the front of the house. i think it will need another 3 coats before i get the look i want (i applied 3 coats to the area under the porch and it still could use one more). I still need to finish the porch, sand the porch roof/balcony as the joints are uneven, apply a coat of spackle to level these areas out. After that is sanded, i'll probably go with the light colored tiles that Greenleaf sells for the porch/balcony roof. I'm going to have wire wicker furniture here and a few potted shrubs and some potted flowers. :ohyeah:

After i completely finish painting the siding, i'll apply the corner trim pieces. I want a nice clean look. The house is getting closer to completion but it still needs alot of work. I'm very happy with the look of the siding. I used Quick Grap glue and it held the siding down pretty well with no warping. There were a couple of pieces that didn't stick down well, i'm sure because i was in a hurry and didn't make sure they were glued well. I put a little quick grab on a scrap piece of siding and slid the scrap siding under the non glued siding on the house. it worked well to fix the problem.

For the lower portion of the bay windows i'm pretty sure that i will use shingles to add a different look. i'm not sure if i will use the burgundy paint or the cream on those shingles. We'll see, i may have to experiment.

It's really coming on now & you're doing a wonderful job with this beauty of a house!

I love your bedroom furniture - it's very unusual, I don't think I've ever seen any like that before.

Thank you for all the pics; your blog will be a great help to me with my BH.

Just one query, I noticed you applied the siding before adding the vertical trim down the edges, but on the roof you've added the roof edge trim before shingling. Is this just a 'Marg special' or is there some deep, profound reason?

I'm so enjoying this blog, thank you :)

Hi Jackie, thanks :)

The bedroom furniture was something i had been keeping an eye out for on ebay, i found the set a few weeks back. It's a retired concord miniatures set. It's in excellant condition and the price wasn't bad. I saw the set somewhere before, i don't know if it was on someone's webshots or in an older dollhouse magazine. :)

For the vert trim, I wanted a clean look to my siding/trim paint job and that was one of the reasons I wasn't going to side this house. I knew it would be a challenge to apply the siding without applying the vertical trim that comes with the kit. By the time you punch out the pieces and sand them, they are not consistently straight. This was true in my case, the width varied to a certain extent and the strips had delaminated in some areas and and just didn't look good even after gluing them back. I was just going to spackle over them. I didn't want to apply the trim pieces and then the siding because i figured painting was going to be a pain trying to keep the light and dark colors from getting on each other. Andrew and i came up with a good idea...why not just replace the vertical trim? I went to hobby lobby and bought out all of their stock of a particular size of basswood (can't remember the size at the moment). So as i've been applying the siding, i measured and cut my corner vert trim and taped it into place. As i measured and cut my siding, it has had a nice snug fit and has a nice straight edge after i removed the corner vert trim. After i paint the siding several times, i'll paint my vertical trim 2-3 coats of the opposite color then i'll glue it into place on the house. I'm happy I decided to side the house and i really like the look of the basswood corners.

The reason i have applied the trim on the roof is just the opposite. I wanted any gaps or errors filled with spackle, I have only applied one coat of paint at this time, but i will give it another 1-2 coats of cream paint. I will then pre-stain each individual shingle, then appy them to the roof. This will give it a nice clean finished look. So there is a method to the madness :)

I am really loving this house and i would love to build another one someday. I doubt i'll kitbash the next one, it's alreay a large house. Well i guess i'd build a basement for it, and put a kitchen and servants quarters in the basement. :)

Thanks for the explanation, Marg. That's a briiliant idea to just 'tack' the vertical trim in place whilst siding & then remove it to paint the different colours. I'll certainly do that.

I'll also consider replacing any trim which doesn't come up to scratch. It sounds so simple, but once you're into the build it gets hard to 'think outside of the box' :)
