roof finished, on to porches

well, not without difficulty, i finished the roof today. the turret was really difficult. the small kick out eaves were a pain in the butt to get right, but now i know for next time. then it was on to the porches..... i did them a little different from the plan, same design, but different framing. i didn't like the way they had end grains exposed. side porch is done, roof in place, still have to decide on posts....ideas welcome!!! the front porch roof is a bit harder, and the plans call f

well, i started gluing and nailing the walls together today, after a week off to do another project. all the walls, and floors are glued and nailed in place, and i started the roof. the turret roof is fun, compound angles. i need more plywood again, for the roof. well, people have asked me, how will you get into the turret rooms to work on them, well, i devised a plan, i put 3 sections together, and they will attach by pins as one piece. easily removable anytime needed. also, lots of large

walls all cut

well, i finished cutting the walls today, and dry fit them into place, things were really going well, then i got to the roof panels....my brain hurts now!!!! tough angles, and the edges that need to be beveled are a real problem. they require a 60 degree bevel, but table saws won't cut past about 50. well, i figured a way around it, but it wasn't easy, and not the best method, but after trim and shingles, all will be fine. i also ran into a couple problems with mistakes in the plans, but i c

well, today, i started laying out walls, and dry fitting them, made a little progress, till i ran out of plywood!!! so back to home depot tonight, and ready to hit it again tomorrow!!! after i get the walls and upper floors the way i want them, i will take it apart, and cut all the doors and windows holes, then glue and nail!!! this house is going to be big. i am not going to attach the house to the base, as it will not fit a door. i will design a way to bolt it to the base after it's insid

1st floor and base

today, i built the frame under the first floor, and attached the floor to the framing. i also framed up the base, and put the plywood on that. everything is fitting perfect so far, and it looks like i can move on to some walls next, but first, time to go pick up more plywood!!! the plans call for 1/4" for the floors and walls, but i am using 1/2"...it's true to scale, and much sturdier, and at 0ver 53 inches tall, i want sturdy!!!

well, i got the measurements all transferred to a piece of plywood, and then cut out the base of the house. i got home a little later from work than i thought i would, so i didn't have time to do more. but tomorrow i should be able to do get something done. i have a framework to build that attaches under the base. even the dogs got in on it!!!
